Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery is another form of minimally invasive surgery. It utilises a robotic system which is attached to ports placed in the patient’s abdomen to assist the surgeon to perform the operation.
The instruments are controlled by the surgeon, who is seated at a console away from the operating table. The advantages of robotic surgery is the improved 3d vision and the ability to magnify to 10 times the naked eye, making it a particularly attractive tool for endometriosis surgery, having the ability to identify the smaller superficial lesions that can often be missed.
Dr Brown is the first female robotic surgeon to use Da Vinci robotic assisted techniques in Tasmania. Due to her extensive laparoscopic background, robotic surgery was a natural progression.
